More about Recessionista-Sista

Hi and welcome to my page :)
I've been buying and selling vintage , popular contemporary and unique clothing and accessories since i left school a zillion years ago ..and have been wearing them and obsessing over them even longer.
My mom was a model and successful beauty pageant contestant back in the UK in the swinging 60s. Her hourglass figure, beehive hairdo and swimsuit photos were the spark that lit the flame for my vintage obsession and i was FOREVER rifling thru her wardrobe dragging sequined dresses off hangers and tottering around in her impossibly pointy shoes with steelcap heels that clip clopped when you walked .
In high school i mucked about a bit with modelling myself which, while i was no supermodel by any stretch .... (Grace Bros, chainstores, Coke , Chokito ads etc) definitely meant i had plenty of money to spend on my wardrobe which at that time was overflowing with high waist flared jeans (Peaches), white skin-tight jeans (leaving not-much to the imagination i'm told) satin harem pants, stretchy off shoulder tops with ruffles, slinky disco dresses... i'll upload some pics when i find them ..
In the 80s while all the girls were doing the big hair, bigger shoulderpads and legwarmers thing, i was frequenting a quaint little cornerstore called 'The Tatt Shoppe' in Petersham. 1950s Grace Kelly style dresses, beaded and sequined tunic tops, fox fur stoles and frilly knickers were my thing back then and they could be found in abundance in that little piece of heaven where i spent many MANY hours and most of my wages.
i moved to London for a few years in the 80s too...punk was huge in the high streets and nowhere more so than The Kings Road in Chelsea.. I never really got into the punk thing myself, but i totally 'got' it...and i still find it hard to bypass a cute pleated tartan mini skirt and chunky brothel-creeper shoes or 10-up docs even now when i'm out trolling for that iconic
80s era piece.
The 90s saw me back at uni and paying my way by working the markets all over Sydney.. after 3 years at uni (journalism) i just went meh.. yknow what? i just like doin what i do and i'm gonna keep doing it.. for-EVER!! Shopping is my favourite thing (well...running second only to sharing my treasured finds). I buy what i love and i sell what i buy and i know that if i love it someone out there will love it too! xx Tracie
