More about Pony Club Australia

Pony Club commenced in the UK in 1929 and in Australia in 1938 when the first club was formed at Ingelburn in NSW. Other states followed and there are now clubs in all states and the Northern Territory with over 55,000 members in just under 1000 clubs.

In 1961the first moves were made to establish a Federal Body and a meeting was held on September 1 at the Inter Pacific Rally at the Mornington Racetrack in Melbourne. At the meeting an Advisory and Liaison Committee was set up known as the Australian Pony Club Council with Mr Erik Kolle as Chairman. A representative from each State was then elected, with the proviso that each State Association could change their elected delegate at their own discretion. Mrs. Burgess, was appointed Honorary Secretary.

Pony Club Australia has become the National Sporting Organisation for Pony Club in Australia It is affiliated with The Pony Club in the UK which is the International Federation for Pony Clubs. HRH Princess Anne, the Princess Royal, became President in 2003 after the retirement of her father HRH Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, and both are actively involved in the running of The Pony Club and international competition. In International Mounted Games, which was an initiative of Prince Phillip, teams compete for a perpetual trophy, the Prince Phillip Cup, a large and spectacular silver cup, which he donated.
