The Nhulunbuy School first opened in 1969, when it was housed in
several demountable units located at Mt Saunders Village,
now Nhulunbuy South. The Principal at that time was
Mr Sam Cozens. The present buildings were completed during
1971 and in November of that year some classes moved down into
the available rooms. At that stage the school had become an
Area School and students attended for year 1-9. The new school
was opened by Mr Malcom Fraser, Minister for Education at the
time, in July 1972.
