The Windgap Foundation’s mission is to improve the quality of life of people with intellectual disabilities by supporting them in reaching their full potential and raising community awareness as to their needs and aspirations. Windgap values set a firm framework of values adhered by all staff, volunteers and directors: Caring: Empowering: Integrity: Independence: Innovation
Windgap Y.E.P program has been designed for young school leavers with an intellectual disability to learn a range of work based skills which caters to the individual needs of each participant through personalised employment goals. These include personal development, employability skills and work experience. Participants choose and plan their own journey providing them with empowerment, independence and fulfilment. The hospitality program focusses on: barista (coffee making skills); customer service; food preparation (knife skills) and work health and safety.
The initiative is offered to participants who have an interest in hospitality and would like to learn various aspects of working in a café/restaurant or back of house (kitchen) environment. The program is offered over 2 years and consists of hands on work experience in a hospitality setting. As part of this 2 year program participants are encouraged to attend a TAFE hospitality course to compliment their practical skills.
