Deborah was born in London, where her love of horses began, from learning to draw them and winning prizes in junior drawing competitions, to learning to ride and compete in racing and showjumping events.
Her family relocated to the west country, where she continued with her riding, competing in various equine competitions and acquired further skills in breaking horses for riding, from which she was able to further understand their characteristics and behaviour and their conformation as an art study.
More recently, Deborah has successfully completed an illustrator's course at Plymouth College of Art to become a freelance book illustrator, also undertaking requests for various commissions for pet portraits and other animal work. However, her main goal to become known as an equine artist. In her work, she uses mixed media consisting of pastel and acrylic on velour and 'colourfix' papers, also undertaking drawings using charcoal and pencil. Deborah's real love is for horses and she has travelled around the Middle East in search of equine subjects, living in the Wadi Rum desert in Jordan, riding Arabian horses and camping with the Bedouin before moving on to India to study ancient Marwari horses, the Maharaja's war horses.
