Mainstage Theatre Company

MAINSTAGE THEATRE COMPANY was established in 1986 out of the ashes of Polygon Theatre Company and the Theatre Co-Operative Tasmania in a period when Federal and Tasmanian funding bodies took money out of the 'state company' and deliberated the future of performing arts in the state.

MAINSTAGE has continued their parent companies' legacy of producing a programme of professional quality theatre, despite the loss of funding, through a production co-op.

Over the last thirty or so years we have presented over thirty productions often collaborating with other organisations to realise unique and original concepts of entertainment.

Particularly, we produce new works, plays that would not normally be given an airing in Hobart, ensemble musicals and overseas successes that had not been staged locally. It is also our aim to encourage young thespians by giving them a stepping stone towards a professional career path.
