More about Little Italy Café Ristorante

The Little Italy Café Ristorante is a former Fine Dinig Italian Cuisine Restaurant in Kallaroo - in the northern suburbs of Perth, Australia.

Originally established in Northbridge, Perth in 1989, Little Italy provided traditional and delicious Italian cuisine for over 20 years.

It's founder and head chef, Josef "Tony" Koch, was a professional of the art of food, and had cooked in several hotels around the world before he settled in Western Australia in the 1980's. The first Little Italy Café Ristorante was located on the corner of Lake Street and Francis Street in Northbridge. Due to financial reasons caused by personal hardship, the restaurant was relocated to Adalia Street in Kallaroo - accessed from an off-beated road in the backstreets of Kallaroo, in what would become one of the finest Italian cooking establishments in Western Australia.

In 2012, Koch sold the restaurant to Amanda McCarley-Pass, due to further personal and financial problems, as well as serious issues with his health. He remained as the head chef until 2013, when he finally retired due to ongoing health detriments.

The restaurant underwent major renovations and introduced live music.

Later in 2013, Tony Koch died, in the care of relatives, of leukemia caused by years of heavy smoking. He left behind his mother, his wife of 12 years and 3 children, the youngest of which was 7. He was also a grandfather.

After the sale of the restaurant, it never reached such heights of success again, and in 2014, Little Italy closed its doors after 25 years of service.
