In the early years, the most important way children learn and develop ideas is through play. Play is an opportunity for children to develop new skills and practice skills learnt. Rich and open-ended experiences enhance children’s creative skills and help them discover more ideas about the world around them. A well-setup play experience encourages a child to explore endlessly.
When I am planning for or setting up a play experience I try to see it from children’s eyes. I love entering children’s world to see what play means to them. I love engaging with children to see their excitement when they are playing. I like to imagine how children go on that journey of learning.
A valuable play experience is not build on just Tv/ movie-based toys. It involves nature. It builds on children’s ideas and interests. It enhances creativity. It includes simple and recycled materials. Children who have the opportunity to enjoy their play begin a lifelong love of learning.
So hope this page will give some inspirational ideas to educators, parents, carers and everyone who is passionate and enjoys supporting children to learn through play.
