More about Lachlan Clyne Liberal for Badcoe

I became an elected member of the City of Unley in 2006, currently serving my third term, second as Mayor. I was elected to the Local Government Association of South Australia’s (LGA of SA) Board in 2010, chaired the Eastern Region Alliance (ERA) of councils in 2014, chaired the Local Government Indigenous Land Use Agreement Leadership Group 2013 - 2014 and was the local government representative to the Power Lines Environment Committee (PLEC). In 2014 I was elected to the senior executive of the Metropolitan Local Government Group (MLGG) and was designated as the champion for Economic Development across the 17 metropolitan councils. I currently sit on the Australian Government’s Regional Development Australia, Adelaide Metro board.

Even before graduating school, I worked in my family’s clothing manufacturing and retail businesses undertaking a variety of roles over almost 20 years ranging from an embroidery machine operator to Company Director. I am still a Company Director of Cutting Edge Clothing Manufacturers.

I am a keen supporter of local sports and am a Patron of the Forestville Eagles Basketball Club where I had played for many years. I attend St Peter’s Cathedral where I am leader of a Stewarding Team. I am married to Jocelyn and we have an 18 month old daughter Matilda. Over the last four years I have played a key role in fundraising over $23,000 for charities. I am a Bachelor of Business graduate and have also worked in the hospitality industry. I served in the Australian Army (Reserves) from 2008 attaining the rank of Lieutenant.

I first realised I had an interest in politics in grade five. A teacher at school asked all the kids which students were interested in debating and I was one of them that put up their hand. I vividly remember clearly thinking the reason I wanted to join the team was to have the public speaking skill to be a politician!

In year 11 I did work experience with Christopher Pyne during a Parliamentary sitting week. Di Hill had arranged it as she knew I was interested in politics. I joined the Young Liberals as soon as I was 16 thanks so a personal visit by John Gardner who was then Young Liberal President.

I am incredibly impressed with Steven Marshall’s leadership, the members of the shadow Cabinet and the culture of the party.

I am determined to deliver a strong campaign that will give the Liberal Party a lively and very real opportunity to win Badcoe.I believe my experience in local government, business, the army and community will enable me to be a strong voice in Parliament for the community of the Badcoe electorate should I be elected.
