Becoming a volunteer at Gellibrand Support Services can introduce a person to a wealth of information and new experiences - and there are innumerable benefits in becoming a volunteer, both for yourself and the people you will work with.
In the beginning, a volunteer may feel a little hesitant as how to act, how to ask questions and how much support a person you work with may require. However, it is important to remember that people with disabilities are like any other person in the community, deserving of the same rights and opportunities. The best advice is to just be yourself.
A volunteer's role involves supporting and empowering people with a disability to make their own decisions and solve their own problems to the best of their ability. This is all done whilst supporting the person you are working with to participate in activities such as going to the footy or creating mosaics.
Throughout all of this you will be supported by us and trained as applicable to the individuals you are working with.
We have volunteer opportunities all over the West + Northern suburbs of Melbourne including: St Albans, Werribee, Altona, Williamstown and many more.
