Fred Olivier Productions

This page features imagery by Hobart-based freelance photographer and videographer Fred Olivier. An accomplished field guide, photographer and documentary filmmaker, Frederique Olivier spent 15 seasons in Antarctica and the SubAntarctic in a variety of roles, from scientist (with a PhD in Antarctic ecology) to voyage manager, skipper, guide and videographer. Her Antarctic career included two very challenging overwintering expeditions to film the Emperor Penguin, both for award winning BBC series “Planet Earth” (2005) and BBC “Penguins: Spy in the Huddle” (2012). Fred worked in documentary production for a variety of broadcasters, such as Nat Geo TV, Discovery, Australian ABC, SBS, as well as independent filmmakers.
Beyond being a polar specialist, Fred’s fascination for the marine world took her to remote Australian Great Barrier and Ningaloo reefs, and further to the remote Solomons Islands where she lived with the local communities for 2 years on her yacht after supporting shoots for another BBC Series “South Pacific”. Whether on ships or small yachts, Fred enjoys life at sea, adventure and exploration, expeditions in remote and inaccessible places and most of all sharing the wonders of the natural world in pictures, creating imagery that supports conservation and raises awareness
