Emergency Medicine Education and Training South Australia - EMET

The Emergency Medicine Education and Training program (EMET) is an initiative funded by a Commonwealth grant to the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine for the development of teaching and training opportunities for staff working in Emergency Departments with minimal or no consultant support in Emergency Medicine. The program provides training to 5 regions in South Australia: Riverland/ Murray Mallee,
Mt Gambier/ South East SA,
Gawler/Barossa,
Hills/Fleurieu and
Yorke Peninsula/ Mid North.

EMET is about extending Emergency Medicine training to where it's needed most
The Emergency Medicine Education and Training (EMET) Program provides a robust structure through which the funds made available by the National Program - Improving Australia’s Emergency Medicine Workforce can be coordinated and delivered.
EMET seeks to improve care for patients requiring urgent and emergency medical services. It does this by providing education, training and supervision to the large number of doctors and nurses working in hospitals and emergency care services - particularly those in rural and regional Australia - who are not specifically trained in emergency medical care.
EMET reporting data indicates that in the 30 months since commencement of ACEM's EMET program:
• Over 200 regional, rural and remote hospitals were provided with training sessions in EM care.
• More than 3,000 training sessions have been conducted, from one hour to full day workshops.
• In excess of 25,000 medical & nursing personnel have attended these training sessions
