More about East Kimberley Job Pathways

Our vision is that all who can work or contribute to the quality of community life do so, supported by the active engagement of and buy-in from all stakeholders

The Remote Jobs and Communities Program to be undertaken by East Kimberley Job Pathways (EKJP) is an Australian Government program designed to reflect a new, mature approach to providing employment services to Indigenous and non-Indigenous people in remote regions. By facilitating individual and community access to a range of engagement and employment options, EKJP will strive to end passive welfare.

In meeting this vision, East Kimberley Job Pathways will:
• Encourage Aboriginal clients in the East Kimberley to take responsibility for their own lives and provide for their families
• Foster and encourage aspiration among clients
• Promote employment as the means for clients to establish independence and increase the choices that are available to them and their families
• Seek to reduce welfare dependency by encouraging and supporting clients to take up employment opportunities in the region
• Encourage and help clients to choose employment over welfare and to stand up to those people who are advocating a different path
• Link clients to services and programs that can complement their attempts to seek employment, establish independence and secure a better life for their families
• Advocate employment, and activities and training leading to employment, as the priority for clients
• Support clients to move to where jobs are available
• Develop community activities that meet community needs, support positive social norms and help prepare clients for work
• Pay particular attention to supporting clients into employment and activities and training leading to employment as well as clients who have been disengaged from the work force for an extended period
• Closely adhere to the principles of “no show, no pay” and “no work, no pay”, and respect cultural and linguistic diversity.
