More about Canterbury Earlwood Caring Community Centre

The Canterbury Earlwood Caring Community Centre is a community based organisation managed by the Canterbury Earlwood Caring Association Ltd (CECAL). We are located in the heart of Earlwood and provide a range of services for the residents of Earlwood and surrounding suburbs.

We operate from a building owned by Canterbury City Council which we rent from them. However, we are not a service of Council. We function independently from Council receiving funding from a variety of sources to provide community based programs and activities; social research and planning; service development and delivery and community information, education and advocacy.

We also have a hall available for hire for community groups, government agencies and for profit groups. Please contact us for more details or check our calendar for available dates.

CECAL is the overarching body of the Canterbury Earlwood Caring Community Centre. CECAL has a vision of a resilient, harmonious, inclusive community where all are respected and have opportunities to participate.

CECAL’s purpose is to work collaboratively with community and other organizations to develop and provide services and programs which are inclusive of all members of the Canterbury community.

We focus on building community capacity in identified areas of need and providing a caring, safe environment where all people feel welcome to participate.

Our Neighborhood Centre and community development programs focus on children, youth, seniors and families. We provide referrals and advocacy with and for those in need and partner with others to provide services throughout Canterbury LGA.

• History of Our Organization
CECAL is a non-profit community organization which has been providing neighbourhood centre services to the Earlwood community and surrounding suburbs for over 35 years.
The beginnings of CECAL emerged in 1964 resulting from efforts of women who formed the Silver Threads Club. In its initial phase, CECAL operated from the Methodist Church and volunteers provided a home visiting program to support aged and frail-aged people in the community
