2007 Rob Williams, re-elected to the chair

2008 Rob Williams re-elected to the chair. A traumatic Year for the Cairns Tropic Jazz Club as the demolition of the Cairns Yacht Club (Aquatic Building) was imminent. The Jazz Club was forced to move. In all 60 venues were canvassed. The shortest list was 25 and ultimately the Tigers Den was selected mainly because of the parking, ground level, and willingness of the CNAFC to allow us to build a stage and erect lighting.

2009 Rob Williams re-elected to the chair. Took some settling in as patrons missed the Cairns Yacht Club and were reticent to relocate. But with the help of the committee and the good will of the 75 musician members we have made steady progress.

2010 Rob Williams re-elected to the chair – Membership 471. The Cairns Tropic Jazz Club Inc. Continues to enjoy the Tigers Den on Behan Street and, with the help of the North Cairns Australian Football Club has made significant additions for the comfort of Patrons and presentation of the Musicians.

Among these was......

The installation of Air-conditioning.

Addition and replacement of the Coloured Stage Light Display

The addition of a full length black curtain behind the bands. This cut down the unwanted acoustic echo...

Several Big Bands have been showcased at the Tigers Den by the Jazz Club. The latest being the After Hours Big Band which featured professional musicians and music teachers from the Cairns and District. As expected they produced some top shelf performances.

Fitzroy Island has been revamped and Junior SeePoy and his Trio are once again providing great music over there.

The music scene in Cairns has taken a downturn due to the economics of the times, but there is still Jazz available if one looks around.

The Cairns Tropic Jazz Club Inc., is a not for profit organization and we must raise funds the best way we can. Our weekly gigs make a nominal amount, and as we pay the rostered band, we must make every dollar count. This is an example of a weekly take. We would really need to boost our number by another 20 to be comfortable, and look to more support from people we know are interested in Jazz.
