The iconic Avon Descent is Western Australia’s own unique sporting event that attracts local, national and international competitors.
Competitors challenge the Avon and Swan rivers in a variety of paddle and power craft in an exciting two day time trial over 124 gruelling kilometres, making the descent from Northam to Bayswater.
The course offers competitors a variety of conditions ranging from exciting rapids, seemingly impenetrable ti-trees, tricky descents through to long stretches of flat water that will test the endurance of the fittest athlete.
The Avon Descent is an event for the whole family to experience and enjoy the rush of a great wild water event. The race is held over eight stages, providing the opportunity for key spectator vantage points and community participation along the banks of the Swan and Avon rivers.
Family Fun Days are held over the weekend of the race from Friday 4 August to Sunday 6 August, and are a great way to follow the thrills and spills of the event, along with plenty of entertainment, live race commentary, and activities for all ages.
